RAF 1918 muster roll online

FindmyPast (www.findmypast.co.uk) has uploaded the 1918 Royal Air Force muster roll, detailing the names of 181,000 servicemen who signed up to the service upon its creation in April 1918. To search the records visit www.findmypast.co.uk/search/military/raf/indexes. (With thanks to @findmypast)

If you find your ancestor there then there are additional RAF materials online which might be able to take your research further. The National Archives at Kew has a page at http://nationalarchives.gov.uk/records/air-force.htm which provides pay-per-view access (£3.36 each) to the service records of 99,000 officers in the RAF from 1918-19, as well as 30,000 service records for the Women's Royal Air Force (WRAF) for the same period. (Combat reports and RAF operations books can also be accessed for the Second World War via the same link.)

Meanwhile, the National Library of Scotland has digitised monthly Air Force list returns from 1919 (and from 1938-1945) and placed them online at the Internet Archive free of charge at http://archive.org/search.php?query=collection%3Anlsairforcelists&sort=-publicdate.
