PRONI events in March

The following events will feature speakers from or representatives of PRONI. They will not however be held in the PRONI Building. Please see below for more details about venue or visit the Talks and Events section of our website.

Killyleagh Plantation Lecture

On the 8th March 2013, Killyleagh Library is hosting a talk “A Background to Charters and the role of Charter Towns”.

PRONI's Ian Montgomery will be delivering a talk on the topic which will feature as part of the 400th Anniversaries taking place over 2012-2013 and will focus on the history of Killyleagh and its Charter in 1613.

PRONI’s ‘Decade of Centenaries’ Roadshow.

As part of the Féile an Earraigh, Spring Festival, PRONI staff will give a short talk on the range of material PRONI holds in relation to the ‘Decade of Centenaries, 2011 – 2021’ including the Covenant, World War 1, the Labour Movement, the Suffragettes, the Easter Rising etc. PRONI would invite you to bring any of your documents that may relate to the events marked by these anniversaries with you. PRONI staff will be on hand to discuss how best to preserve historical documents. PRONI would like to scan copies of your documents for future and some of the ‘highlights’ will be put on the PRONI website for all to enjoy.

Belfast 400 History Forum

The Ulster Committee for Irish Historical Studies and Belfast City Council present the Belfast 400 History Forum. This day of public lectures from leading historians and archaeologists looks at events leading up to the signing of the city` first charter on 27 April 1613 and the development of Belfast from town to city.

Along with five other speakers, the forum will feature a talk by Ian Montgomery of PRONI who previously worked on the Belfast City Archive Project which catalogued the records of the Belfast City Council and its predecessor bodies.

St Patricks Day Festival

Be part of Belfast’s St Patrick’s Festival and enjoy exhibitions, music, talks, arts and crafts workshops, children’s colouring competition, tea dances and films all celebrating St Patrick.

PRONI will be contributing to the events by holding an exhibition stall at Belfast City Hall on the 15th and 16th March where a representative from PRONI will be on hand to offer help with any queries you may have.

St Patrick’s celebrations will also be taking place in St George’s Market, Ulster Hall and the Waterfront Hall, as well as an annual parade.. You can find further information on

Belfast 400 Easter Festival 2013

As part of the Belfast 400 Easter Festival which takes place 30 March – 2 April 2013, a variety of talks will take place in Belfast City Hall at 1.30pm each day between Saturday 30th March - Tuesday 2nd April. As part of this event, PRONI's Ian Montgomery will be delivering a talk on Sunday 31st March entitled, 'Councils and Corporations: Local Government in Belfast'.
