Baby's body missing from Scottish coffin

A mother granted permission from the Scottish courts to carry out a DNA test to confirm the identity of a baby claimed to be hers has discovered that his coffin contains no human remains. The shock discovery was made at Saughton Cemetry in Edinburgh.

Lydia Reid had sought permission to test the remains of her son Gary Paton, having spent years trying to determine what became of her son who died aged just 7 days in 1975. Shortly after he died she was shown a baby's body that was claimed to be his, but which she was sure was not her son. She spent many years subsequently helping to expose the fact that between 1970 and 2000 many deceased children's organs were retained by Scottish hospitals without parental permission - something Lydia Reid believed happened to her son.
